[img]What I have is a quite rare BMW 320i "Century Turbo", which were dealership modified by Century BMW in Southern California using a smog approved kit using a Turbo, wastegate, etc. making it a superior performer to a normally aspirated 1.8. It also included lowered suspension, Bilstein Struts, stiffer springs, sway bars and a Sport steering wheel normally found in a 320is. It also has Italian made MOMO wheels made for BMW in the BBS basket weave design. Current tires are almost new and fairly wide Sumitomo Tires. Came with Air dam as part of the package.
I have had the car for 2 years and in that time have done the brakes, clutch, belts, tune up and recently stripped it down and had it painted the original Black (which it's always been, it just needed a refreshing). The early 80's were a confusing time for manufacturers trying to comply with a bunch of new emission and safety regulations. This is the original 3 Series BMW and successor to the beloved 2002 which did not have the regulations to comply with. The turbo package addressed the performance issues but did nothing about the bumpers that stuck WAY out from the otherwise attractive shape. To remedy this I painted them Color-Matched Black, and "tucked" the rear. This was done by drilling the bumper shocks and then pushing the bumper in 2-3 inches for a more streamlined look. The same can be done to the front which is also Color-Matched, but at present I have left it off as I think it looks aggressive and clean. To ME it evokes the 2002 look. Up to the buyer to agree and leave it or put the front bumper back on, I will include all the needed parts. Oh, and I also Color-Matched the door handles and tinted the windows and side markers and turn signals from orange to smoke They are perfectly functional and visible day or nite.
It is a 5-Speed car and gets exceptional mileage (25 City, 35 Highway) depending on how much you mash the throttle. It has A/C, compressor engages but it does not blow cold, unsure if it needs Freon or something more serious. Interior is original and in good shape accept for a 2" tear in the driver's headrest. Replaced the turbo last year, at that time I had a full custom exhaust system to "let er breathe!", Car is currently registered in AZ, but is located in Orange County CA till sold. It is 50 State legal & has a smog/EPA/CARB exemption for the Turbo system and will pass smog inspection in CA if you put a Catalytic Converter back in. May not be required in your state/city.
It's fun to drive, I've had 4 of the E21 model 3 Series and this one drives the best by FAR. The Century Turbo package wasn't cheap, but effective. Due to the cost they are rare, I have heard they only made 400 or so of them, so rare and maybe more collectable than a regular model. I doubt they ever have the cult following of a 2002 tii, but it is the original 3! I've got WAY too many cars, including the Big Brother red BMW in one of the pics and sadly it's time to thin the herd!
Full Disclosure: It's a 31 year old car, a survivor, but not perfect! It's sold AS-IS, Where-IS. Emergency flasher switch does not work (bad design). Carfax should be clean. There is no Rust. Comes with complete original trunk mounted tool kit and jack with lug wrench.. It smokes a bit when started up, especially when it's been sitting for awhile, it's happiest when driven. Windows and Sunroof are manual crank, Dome/Dash/Headlight/Taillights all work. It's wired for fog/driving lights. Pings if you use bad gas. I will include a bunch of spare parts, fuses, tail light lenses, side trim pieces, etc. Stereo works but is old, not sweet 8-Track old, but close. Comes with what I believe is the original spare tire that has never been on the ground. It still has the little nubs! I will include the original 6 page glossy brochure as well as the Motor Trend issue that has a 4 page article on the car.
I'm sure I've forgotten something, but am tired of typing so Happy Bidding![/img]
